Trauma wound infections are painful and can often develop into difficult to treat mixed infections. If the infection is not eliminated, this can impair wound healing and lead to catastrophic outcomes including sepsis. Up to 15 million patients in Europe and the US require treatments for traumatic wounds each year. Current treatments are becoming less effective particularly against complex mixed infections due to antimicrobial resistance.
